About the American Elk
The elk, or wapiti is the second largest species of deer in the world, and one of the largest mammals in North America
and eastern Asia. Elk cows average 500 lb, stand 4-1/2 ft at the shoulder, and are6-1/2 ft from nose to
tail. Bulls are some 25% larger than cows at maturity, weighing an average of 650 lb, standing 5 ft at the shoulder
and averaging 8 ft in length.
